It's really not that difficult.  Scheme is a fairly simple language
to learn, is quite powerful, and there are lots of existing reports
to learn from.

Having said that, I know nothing about the budget features.  I've
never used them myself.  Nor have I looked at the reports, so I
have no comment on their usefulness (or lack thereof).

But to your exact issue here, have you looked at the Income Statement
(or Profit & Loss) report?  No, it doesn't give you monthly
averages, but you could run it a month at a time and compare.
