GC Praise + Question

I am an unsophisticated user and have been using GC for several years. I have found it to be fairly easy to use with few problems. I have especially appreciated the linux updating feature which generally enables me to update things easily and with no interruption. However, updating the linux core has been another thing. Both times I tried it it rendered my whole system unusable and I had to hire someone to come to my house to fix it, which took him hours of fast line command stuff totally beyond me. (He had to boot from my rescue disk.)

Rather than letting Adept Installer install the current upgrades (including kernal 2.6.22 on X86/86_64), I am going to get him here in advance to see if he can tell me what the problem has been before trying the upgrade.

Question: Could the problem have been that the X86/86_64 means that it is only for the 64 bit version? I think my older Sempron 2800+ may be a 32 bit version. I use Kubuntu/Linux.

Appreciatively,

Steve J
