How to define and edit default value for variable in scheduled transactions

You could edit the SX and enter the bill amount on both sides of the 
transaction, eliminating the variable.

The way I would do it is to avoid using Scheduled Transactions at all; 
just enter a forward-dated transaction when the bill arrives. Or are you 
using the SX as a diary, to remind you to actually make the payment?
