custom reports

Hello, I'm not a technical user. In fact I'm quite new with Linux and GnuCash.

I would like to develop my own custom reports, but I find it quite complex (involving learning a programming language called Scheme).

Which would be the best way to get custom reports? Learning Scheme or trying to investigate a way of getting the data out of GnuCash into OpenOffice and then make the reports there?
