a method of reducing the data entry effort.

Assume that
1) Each transaction that was an "inter" transaction was identifiable in 
some way. A convention as to what would be placed in the description field?
2) A program (possibly running as a function of GnuCash) had read access 
to the files containing the books of a set of "companies" that had such 
'inter" transactions. This program presumably also having an input of 
the identifiers for these companies (what would be in the description 
for them related to the file name)

This program when run identifies any transfers not posted into the other 
company's books. In other words, all that it is automating is the 
reconciliation process identifying any missed or misplaced postings of 
"inter" transactions.
