I suggest you use TrueCrypt (http://www.truecrypt.org/) and put your
data on a virtual encrypted disk within a file. 

This would also secure all the backup and log files which are
automatically generated within the same folder where you store your
main GnuCash data file.

Or put your data on an USB stick etc. which you can take with you.
