Yes, if you use TrueCrypt, you must unmount the volume before the
container file, which contains it, can be uploaded by Dropbox.

Rene didn't talk about syncing buffers to the physical disk but about
syncing with Dropbox to a different system (or whatever, I don't know
how DropBox exactly works).

The advantage of that approach is that nowbody can make use of the
container file (mounting it as a volume / drive and thereby have access
to the files contained) without knowing the passphrase.
