CSV export

What is the easiest way to export data from the "Basic Ledger" view of
GnuCash, ideally in to something portable like a CSV file?

I've heard a rumor regarding an application that will generate a QIF,
which I'd have to load in to Quicken and then re-export to CSV somehow.

I have also heard of people saving a report, though I'm not sure which
one would best resemble the "Basic Ledger", and importing that using MS
Office's import-from-HTML feature.

What is the best approach?
