Segmentation fault at "print report"

Debian system
Gnucash 2.2.9 built from r17949M on 2009-12-03

but I have had this problem for a while

I can make a number of invoices and then "make printable invoice". this works 
ok, then I go to "print report" to make pdfs to email. I can print usually two 
but never three before I get a crash.
I remembered to run from the terminal for an error message today and got 
"segmentation fault".
I haven't got debugging / trace installed.

Has anyone else had this happen? I haven't put anything on the bugtracker yet.
