Equity account

Are there any problems in the treatment of equity when two essentially
independent accounts are combined in a single file?  Or is it possible
somehow to split equity between the two accounts smoothly?

One problem I can see is that imbalances (which of course shouldn't exist
anyway) are global, not account-specific.
