Lock status not cleared

I too am encountering the unlocking anomaly among three systems: Ubuntu
Linux, OpenSuSE Linux, and Windows XP.  I carefully check that when I open
the file on one machine, it's not open on another machine.  Still, it seems
always to show up in lock status.  If I choose "open anyway", I have no
further difficulties -- but that does not seem to be a good way to do
things.
