The Transaction Report is already a very useful tool. I have recently
created a few useful reports which help me monitor my daily activities.
Above improvements will be a huge step forward and I look forward to
getting my mits on 2.4!

I agree with the previous poster that reporting is the single-most
important feature of GnuCash - why else put all those data in?

In my view only a few more steps will get you damned close to
perfection:
- ability to refine current search (and add to/delete from)
- enhance sorting/grouping in Transaction Report
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=626385)

You can do the most complex searches already but what a bummer when you
have clicked together a dozen search criteria and then realize you made
a mistake and have to start all over again!

I live in GnuCash (well, and in Firefox). It starts up at 9:00 and goes
down at midnight. Thank you for developing GnuCash.
