Custom Reports

I guess one uses the tools one knows (or can get to know).  I had a
(very!) quick look at guile and wasn't that impressd with its apparent
understandability and learnability.  So I'm actually wondering whether to
make the effort to try and dig out some Perl code I wrote a decade ago
for handling SQL queries and report-writing, and then see if I can make
any sense of the gnucash database ...
