Please pardon this inquiry. I found the answer in the documentation. I'm
still trying to wrap my head around the perspective used in double entry
accounting I guess :o)

Subject: Debits increasing balance
To: gnucash-user at gnucash.org

Greetings,

I have established an account for my bank account. When I add a transaction,
it increased my balance in the account instead of decreasing it. This
doesn't make any sense to me. If I look at the vendor accounts (Costs) I've
sent fund to via the bank account those accounts look correct as the balance
is increasing as I pay them which makes sense. What I can't figure out is
why the balance in the account I am paying them from (Assets) is also
increasing per transaction instead of decreasing. If the vendor accounts are
any indication than I'm doing it correctly as of their payments appear as
credits transferred from my bank account. And in my bank account view all of
the payments are in the debit column... so why is the number in the balance
column increasing instead of decreasing proportionately? Can anybody help me
troubleshoot this.. or if in fact that is the way it should be please
briefly explain why? Many thanks. Kevin
