The "Update FinanceQuote" app in the 2.2.9.5 dmg is broken. I put a new one in the stable/2.2.9 download folder a couple of weeks ago. Download it, unzip it, copy it to /Applications and double-click it.
Or you can run gnc-fq-update in terminal like this:
/Applications/Gnucash.app/Contents/Resources/bin/gnc-fq-update
Which is exactly what Update FinanceQuote.app does, which is why it needs to be in the same directory as Gnucash.app.
