I would argue that GnuCash is trying to be two things:

1) A replacement for Quicken/Money for personal accounting
2) A replacement for Quickbooks for business accounting

As for a strategy or futures paper, you're mistaking GnuCash for an
actual corporate product with real timelines.  GnuCash is a volunteer
project, and people work on what they want to work on.  As much as I
try to drive development in certain directions, you can walk a horse to
water but can't make them drink.
