I had been thinking that this was the situation before, but couldn't remember the details. However, https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=363648 clearly shows (in its 118 comments!) that there is quite a bit of weirdness involved here. I am neither a developer nor a Windows user, so I really can't help much in the resolution. From my reading of that bug, it looks as if Orbit, gconf, and Gnucash *under Windows* get confused about where to look for feedback from the other packages. It would also appear that this had been fixed some time ago, although the solution did sound a little ... uncertain.

I will note that the issue has been around since *before* the last stable release, so everyone out there upset that this is happening in 2.4 may want to reconsider their fears. Gnucash inherited this problem a long time ago.
