Gnucash does not create an EXE file in its C:\Program Files (x86)\Gnucash
(*if you are using 64 bit, no (x86) if your using 32.) It makes a
gnucash.cmd file which functions the same as the .exe would.
The gnucash install gives an option for a desktop shortcut, and maybe a
quickstart icon, but that doesnt work in W7. I can pin the program to the
task bar when it is open, but it will not actually start the program after
it is closed. You cant pin CMD files to the task bar apparently. I couldnt
figure out how to make that desktop icon on my own and so reinstalled GC
after realizing I couldnt pin the program to the taskbar. Initially I
installed GC without the desktop icon.

Download the stable version 2.2.9 here:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gnucash/files/gnucash%20%28stable%29/2.2.9/gnucash-2.2.9-setup.exe/download

It is an exe file.
