Report Editing

I have searched the documentation and can't find a solution to my 
problem.  I have made a custom report, saved it, and then find I need to 
modify it.  I can do this and then save it to a new name but it is then 
based on the first report saved.  If I then delete the earlier report to 
remove unneeded clutter, then the second report cannot be generated.  
Over time and several changes I end up with a bunch of reports I don't 
want.  Since I have many years worth of expenses and investments that 
change yearly it is easy to see why I need to make changes over time.
Is there any way to modify a saved custom report and save it to the same 
name or base it on the original standard report?  The only way I can see 
to do it is to start over modifying the standard report which means 
changing hundreds of account to include/exclude.
