How to make a "custom" expense report [was Re: Report customization nightmare]

I tried 4 times to formulate a response to this type of thinking, and 
failed. Suffice it to say that, no, that isn't a good response to user 
complaints or comments or suggestions about making what should be such a 
simple modification.
