Nope, if it's not in /Library/Frameworks then there's no way for the linker to find it without a path -- and the path points to the Frameworks in the bundle.

As I said, I can't reproduce the problem, so I can't fix it. I'm going to use a different build arrangement and newer Qt frameworks with 2.3.15, but I have no idea whether it will work or not.

I'll be interested to know if a MacPorts build changes anything. You could also try your own build using the instructions at http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/MacOSX/Quartz. If either of those fail, try a debug build, which will at least give a better crash dump.
