Odd Register Behavior When Trying to Add An Account

I am running Gnucash 2.2.9 on OS X 10.5.8 Leopard from John's dmg (r17949M 2009-09-08).

I have long noted an odd behavior in a register when entering or altering a transaction. When typing in an account name, the Autofill causes the account list to pop up, which allows the user to navigate through the account hierarchy.

The odd behavior occurs if a user wants to add a new account while in the midst of editing the transaction. It is possible to add a new account directly from the transaction split--but only when the account list popup is disengaged. If the popup is visible, you must first click the account list button and dismiss the popup. Then, when you type in your new account name, Gnucash asks to create the account.

Is this behavior expected, or is it a (minor) bug that should be registered?

TIA,
David
