Deposits without invoices?

Is there any way to record a deposit without an invoice that doesn't give
Gnucash fits?  I have some work that generates passive income on a regular
basis, but I'm not at all interested in creating an invoice as the only way
to post the income.  I tried simply making a deposit, but it created another
account to take the money from.
