Not being able to save means that you don't own the file. To acquire permissions, navigate to the file and select "Get Info" from the context menu. There's a small lock in the lower right hand corner: Click on that. You'll be prompted for administrator authentication. Once you've authenticated, change the permissions setting for yourself to "Read & Write" and all should be well.
