Hello

I wanted to upgrade from my quite old GnuCash Version 1.8.9 on OpenSuse to
2.2.9 on Mac OS-X.

When I open the file it asks my for characterset converision and list all
the information with, I guess, non US-Ascii Characters, which I have a lot
since I am German speaking ;-) ... so all the information looks find and I
press Apply ... Then GnuCash does something with the file and when finished
tries to reoepen it ... the I get an "error parsing the file" error and I
cannot open the file anymore.

Also when I close and try to reopen, I get the same errror. The new file (~
350 KB) is significantly smaller than the old one (~ 3.4 MB) ... I also
tried to upgrade my data on an Ubuntu, but there the same thing happens, so
I guess the problem does not depend on my platform.

Is it possible to upgrade directly from 1.8.9 to 2.2.9? If not which are the
intermediate versions and where can I download them?

If it's possible, what does cause my problem?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Cheers

Thomas
