Problem - This account register is read-only

David,
thank you for that, it has worked to a degree. Having done what you
suggested I am now able to enter and save changes, but the warning box
still appears when the application is initiated. I can get rid of it by
checking the box "remember the answer and do not ask again" but I wonder
if there is still an underlying problem.

BTW I should have said it is Gnucash 2.2.9 running on Ubuntu 10.10.
