Which version for a Jan 1 fresh start?

Colin,

The portable version you are using was probably created by the people at
PortableApps.com, who do a great job. There is no portable version
available here. No doubt when 2.4 is released, the PortableApps folks will
release a new version.

I am running a 2.3.x portable build available from the winpenpack site. I
have copied the latest nightly build from my desktop into the portable
winpenpack \bin\gnucash directory, and am able to successfully run the
latest nightly build from my USB stick.

I am sure that 2.4.0 will run successfully as a portable using the
winpenpack 2.3.x build. However, you can probably expect that either
winpenpack or PortableApps.com will release an updated version as soon as
the stable 2.4.0 is released, rather than having to fudge a portable build
yourself. Personally, I like tinkering with the unstable nightly builds and
am keen to help by looking for bugs.

Email me if you have any trouble trying this out. Remember that until the
next stable release is available, that you should not risk important data
with an unstable build.

I will provide a portable build myself if one is slow to arrive from the
usual portable build providers. However, either of the two portable sites
mentioned above have previously provided solid, good quality portable
builds, and are worth waiting for. They deserve our support.

Regards,

Kim
