Thanks everyone, I think I have it working.  Not sure if it will work
on the back end with the reports etc... don't really understand that
right now, but I have what I need.  I can only say this was far more
complicated than it seems or should be.  Otherwise, it works for what
I needed.

I do find it odd, that in quicken all these side accounts and cash
accounts are all contained in the one account and transaction (the
fund).  The movement of funds reinvested etc...

I can move money into the fund to buy shares from the bank with a
split of my paycheck, only for future deposits.  I will set up
scheduled transactions for these, so ti will work out.  I can side
step the cash account for almost everything.

I haven't yet used any of the budgeting or report features of GC, so
that will be the next hurdle.
