Version 2.4.0 only in German on Mac 10.6.5 Intel

Assuming that you're using the dmg from Gnucash's downloads and not MacPorts:

More likely they are all set to British English. There is special-casing for this in the Gnucash language selection code, but it seems that I need to work on it some more.

In the meantime, try enabling just "English"  and placing it second in your language list (System Preferences>Language & Text).
