puzzle about reconcile (2.4.0, OS X 10.5.8)

Reconciling a savings account; enter the interest amount in the Interest  
Payment dialogue. The Payment From window doesn't show any Income  
accounts; the old Income:Interest somehow hooks onto a Liability; there's  
no way to get to the Income:Interest account.

(The first account I tried reconciling, my checking account, worked  
perfectly as expected.)
