Having difficulty transferring Gnucash accounts from a Windows machine to a Linux machine

Since I was not happy with other aspects of the PC's behavior under
Mepis Linux 8, I went ahead and installed ubuntu 10.04 LTS on the
machine.  Gnucash v2.2.9 is the version in the Ubuntu repository; I
installed it and had no issues opening any of the files I moved over.
