On the other hand, if you're not very comfortable with building from source it 
may very well be a good idea to wait for Kubuntu to ship GnuCash 2.4. A good 
way to trigger that process would be to request a GnuCash update in the proper 
Kubuntu support channels. I'm not a Kubuntu/Ubuntu user, so I can't tell you 
which channel that should be. Launchpad perhaps ?
