Update of shares prices without gnucash

I think I'm missing a step; I'm running GC 2.4.6 on Windows 7.

This is what I'm doing:
1 - Open command window (cmd.exe)
2 - Change directory to gnucash\bin (cd c:\Program Files (x86)\gnucash\bin)
3 - Type "gnucash --help"

Nothing happens at this point except that I'm returned to the command
prompt. If -- at step 3 -- I type just "gnucash", the program starts.
