Before you get too excited read the FAQ
<http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Q:_Is_the_Postgres_DB_.2F_SQL_backend_supported.3F>. 
The developers still do not recommend doing any write operations, and
the reads are not easy to construct at this time.

It is easy to trash the database(I found out the hard way)so watch your
step.
