Install new 2.4.3 in Ubuntu

What exactly did you download? I've not seen an installable package on the GNUCash website for 2.4.3 that is applicable to Ubuntu.

So, you have two options, one is to simply wait until 11.04 and install that, it will have a later version of GNUCash in it, if I recall they were upto 2.4.2 last time I was playing in 11.04, of course that may have changed, or change in the future before 11.04 is released.

The other option is to install it yourself, the instructions are pretty clear and are found here

Instructions for 10.04 SHOULD work for 10.10 as well, although if memory serves there was something about some bug that isn't in 10.04, but is in 10.10 due to an upgraded module.
