I don't understand this.  In my Ubuntu 10.10 I have just installed
get-deb and upgraded my GnuCash from 2.2.9 to 2.4.3, but the first month
shown in the calendar is still April, even after closing and reopening
the Scheduled Transactions window.

So it looks as if the bug is still there.  I can't understand why I am
getting different behaviour from yours, though.
