Please take a closer look at the various reports available under the Reports menu. There are a wide variety of reports there, and these all can be customized to produce many different reports. I am sure that one of them can meet your needs (for example, the Income Statement may provide the information you want). 

Keep in mind that Gnucash uses a slightly different model for managing the content of a report. It requires you to run a report first, and once you have some output from it, you edit the options of the report to your needs. You edit a report by clicking on the Options button, and from there, you can change the accounts to display, the dates to cover, the level of details, etc.
