Transferring info to new computer

This is a general problem (not specific to gnucash). I'm just pointing 
this out ..... you will be moving lots of data from the old computer to 
the new one and also software (programs) which you will need to 
"install" there (not quite as simple as moving data if under some 
operating systems).

Here are the critical questions:

1) Will the new computer be running under the same operating system as 
the old one? And what is the operating system? (because you are asking 
the question, you are most likely not using a 'nix operating system)

2) What hardware do you have available for moving data? For example, do 
you have an external USB hard drive available?
