If you have some JPY cash eg JPY 10,000, and want to open an account in
GnuCash with that balance, then with Trading Accounts on the split should
look something like this:

Assets:Cash:JPY Cash +10,000 (Tot Receive)
Trading:CURRENCY: EUR +86.96 (Tot Receive)
Equity: Opening Balances -86.96 (Tot Spend)
Trading:CURRENCY:JPY -10,000 (Tot Spend)

To do this you would enter a transaction in the JPY Cash account receiving
the 10,000 JPY, with Equity:Opening Balances as the account. The split is
created automatically with Trading Accounts functionality.
