You may still experience a problem, due to timezones.  If you see the
date "1970-01-01 00:00:00 -0000" and your computer is set to a
timezone that is west of UTC, then the date is actually in 1969 when
adjusted for local time.  I don't know if this affects the cause of
the problem.
