The icon for close is greyed out because you don't have anything selected that you can close (like a register window). It won't let you close the chart-of-accounts page.

However, I did forget to tell you a step that will also stop you from being able to copy in the new Gnucash: There's going to be a dbus-daemon instance still running. The easiest way to get rid of it is to open Applications:Utilities:Activity Monitor, search for "dbus" (no quotes, the search box is in the usual place), highlight the line (there should be only one, but if there are more,  select each in turn) and click on the red stopsign, then "quit" from the drop-down. When there aren't any more dbus-daemons running you can replace the old Gnucash with the new one.
