Set up a stock account?

Also--could you tell us where you read that you need a new file? Perhaps the documentation needs to be cleared up...

Your brokerage account is just a standard Asset account.  Then you need to
create individual Stock or Fund accounts under that for each Stock or Fund
that you buy.  Part of creating those S/F subaccounts will be creating the
Stock or Fund commodity.
