What is so obsessive compulsive about 'account code'? I don't understand how
you can imply that account code "isn't necessary"!
Tell me, how would you find the relevant papers for a particular investment
(imagine hundreds of investment accounts) account without having this
account code?
There would definitely have to be some index of accounts from where you
would find the file number, and that would tell you in which filing cabinet
the papers are stored.
If you're saying that it's outside the scope of GNUCash to maintain an index
of accounts, then I would say that it's a severe deficiency that needs
attention.
Despite all the electronic bookkeeping, there's still paper trails that
follow and must be dealt with. I wish I knew how to code this stuff!
I would say that 'account code', and that too a unique one, which is
available in pulldown menu accross the software, creates an index someplace,
is absolutely basic.
