Strange Error Message: "Scheduled Transactions with variables cannot be automatically created."

This December 2008 thread describes a problem with creating scheduled
transactions containing variables causing this cryptic error message if
the "Create Automatically" check-box is checked. However, the strange
behavior still exists in release 2.4.11. It is not discussed in the
manuals or FAQ about scheduled transactions. It would be easy enough to
to do one or more of the following:

1. Edit the message to include a suggestion to un-check the box.
2. Change the default create new scheduled transaction behavior to
leave that check-box unchecked.
3. Document this and other limitations and issues with scheduled
transactions such as issues using scheduled transactions with stocks and
commodities, for example, under the Scheduled transactions sections in
either the users guide or the help manual. (Or the FAQ about scheduled
transactions)
4. Actually resolve some of these issues in the code.

Could someone do this? Please?
