Using Customer or Vendor accounts to track donations

I am setting up Gnucash to do accounting for my temple. All of our income is
through donations and fund raising. I want to use Customer or Vendor to keep
track of donations which are income.

Anyone know how to set that up?

I don't have an accounting background.
