It's always nice to hear of improvements like that.

Meanwhile, if John Dunshee is confident enough with Excel and/or a text editor, and doesn't mind resorting to that sort of hackery, it is actually not difficult to create a block of XML for the new customers, and insert that into the gnucash XML file. 

An entirely unsupported solution, of course ...  :-)
