Has anyone installed the GnucashEditor (view & edit GnuCash Files)?

Right, except you then don't get *any* history, and have to set up loads of
Opening Balances, which is time-consuming and error-prone, particularly on
databases with hundreds of accounts.
The desire is to have, say, the last year's data in the current file, and
have archived data older than that.
