Gnucash 2.4.10-1 Windows +MySQL GUI now hangs at various places... almost becoming UNUSABLE!

Hi, I recently updated to the latest Windows version and have started to 
experience hangs in the UI at various places.
I'm running under Window 7 Professional, have been using gnucash for 
nearly 4 years for tracking my home/personal finances without too much 
of a problem.. but these hangs are really frustrating.
Here are a couple scenarios:
Enter a new transaction, go to the account section, start typing the 
list of accounts pop-ups but then it hangs for several seconds (up to 
50!) before it responds.
Deleting a transaction - right click to delete a transaction, I get an 
empty dialog box appear and gnucash hangs for ages... >> 1 min... before 
it comes back with a window to asking to confirm the delete...

I could go on... but this issue is just about causing gnucash to be 
unusable for me...

Can anyone help here... as I'm a at loss at to what the problem is or 
how to solve this..!
