Gnucash 2.4.10-1 Windows +MySQL GUI now hangs at various places... almost becoming UNUSABLE!

Using XP-SP3 I have 2 instances of gconfd-2.exe as well. When viewed in
Process Explorer one seems to be a 'child' of the other...
Getting back to the original hanging - I gave up on using the database
backend as loading became unusably slow (bug 
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=643586 643586 ) so I wonder if
you save your data as XML and test it to see if it still hangs?
