I now have 2.411 running by following your instructions and dragging Gnucash to the applications folder. I did not get a dialog box asking if I wanted to replace the existing version with 2.411. it wanted authorization to make a connection to binary and then osascripts put up s dialog box with the message it wanted to make some changes.. I gave it my permission as administrator by signing my password and everything has been fine since. Thanks very much for educating me. Your instructions are very clear. You have relieved days and days of frustration on my part.

If I try to install the newer version directly over 2.40 I get into trouble. .It doesn't install. Sometimes I get the message that 2.411 is not the proper version for this computer; sometimes the computer locks up; sometimes I get a long error message that asks to be sent to Apple. Obviously I don't know how to upgrade this software but II think I can get along with 2.40 for quite a while.

When you drag Gnucash from the .dmg to the Applications folder you should get a dialog box asking if you want to replace the existing one or keep both. Since that's just Finder doing its thing, I don't see why the computer should hang or that you'd get messages about it being wrong for the computer. You shouldn't try to run Gnucash from the dmg.
